Went to my first Mary Kay celebratory dinner with my wife last night. Well, first involving all of Chicago. No specific recognition for her, but one of her recruits is in the top 10 for the Chicago area. Lots of hard work out of my wife supporting her team, as she get support from the woman she's a team member of. Go Deane's Divas!!

I think I may have figured out what I can do to help my country and use the talents I already have. Turns out there are several parts of the government looking for "server guys". Looks like I can do what I enjoy and serve my nation at the same time. Now to find out if there are any in or around my city. Anyone near Chicago work as a fed?

New Patriotism

Anyone who knows me knows I tried enlisting in the Marines when I got out of high school. Actually, I signed up when I was 16, then spent 2 years training with the Staff Sargeant that recruited me. However, I got to MCRD San Diego, spent 3 days in processing, then someone reviewed my records. Turns out since my dad has Crohn's disease, and is darn near disabled from it, they decided I wasn't going to be allowed to enlist. 2 years they had that info, and waited until I got in to turn me away. None of that matters now, just makes me more likely to be a patriot than the norm, I guess. I do want to go out and give back to my country, just not sure what I can do. Past the point in my life where I can go in and enlist. 3 kids between 13 and 18 months pretty much put the kibosh on that. Not sure what other avenues are open for me.

Happy New Year

Starting the New Year and not even able to be at home. Turns out when you work 2 jobs, you end up working on days when you don't want to. C'est la vie, I suppose, but still not something to make a guy happy. We'll see what the new year brings, full of hope, happiness, and expanding my horizons. In fact, that will be my New Years resolution: Expand my horizons, both in my work and my daily life. That's all for now, I'm going to call my wife and tell her I love her to start out the new year.
